The Moon is a Woman by Kathleen Collins
Some talk of the man in the moon But this is not so The moon is a woman Standing vigil in the night Watching over her children while they sleep Challenging the darkness Other worlds have their own But this one is ours And she is fierce in her silence Luminous in her soul Keeper of time, of cycles Of ebb and flow Marker of seasons The moon is a woman She can drive you mad Or cast a love spell Some call her goddess Some curse her in the dark And still she guards the night Pulling the starry sky about her like a cloak Wrapping the sleepy ones in her soft shadowy folds And mark this: all women know her The moon is mother, guardian Warrior, weaver of dreams Poet of stillness She is part of them and they of her The moon is a woman |
